The banners for the Pocklington Canal Restoration Project are now up and the first target has already been achieved.

With £75,000 already donated towards the final target of £250,000, the Restoration Appeal to restore navigation between Melbourne and Bielby is well and truly making waves.

Pocklington Canal Amenity Society intends to repair two locks and open up a further two miles of the canal to ensure continued biodiversity in the waterway. Dick Watson, volunteer coordinator for the society, said: “Support from the local community has been very encouraging and now we want to push on to secure the future of this section of our local historic canal.” The society will be presenting a display of historic documents and information on the building of the canal at All Saints’ Church in Pocklington during Heritage Open Days, from 10-13 September.
