A new group is looking for local young people in the area to take to the stage.

Weighton Young Players (WYPS) is a new Community Youth Theatre group.

Starting on Tuesday 4 October, it aims to give young people the opportunity to act and learn all about the theatre.

WYPS will meet every Tuesday at 6:30pm in The Clubhouse at The Market Weighton School on Spring Road.

During the year, the group will stage shows to highlight its work, and it is proposed that later workshops will include other aspects of the performing arts such as: stage management; sound and lighting; and set design and construction.

Group leader of WYPS Karen Todd said: “We aim to inspire, nurture and train young people in the theatrical arts. In a fun, safe and enjoyable way, we will teach them how to communicate effectively, build their self-confidence and flourish in their acting ability.

“Anyone aged eight to 17 years old is welcome to come along to the group’s workshop on Tuesday 4 October.

“You do not need experience to attend but we do ask you register your interest before attending by emailing or telephoning 01430 861195.”

WYPS leader Val Brogden said: “It’s brilliant that the launch workshop will be run by the Youth Theatre Company from Theatre Royal, York. This first workshop promises to be an interesting and action-packed evening.”

Further information about the WYPS workshop can be obtained by emailing: or by contacting Karen Todd on 07540 109406 or Peter Warner on 01430 861195.
