Young musicians showcase their skills

The three winners of Pocklington and Market Weighton Rotary Club’s Young Musician of the Year competition in January showcased their musical talents at the Rotary district finals in York.

Violinist Harry Kneeshaw, Martha Cullen, who plays the tenor saxophone, and Anna Baines, who plays the flute, all performed at York’s Centre for Early Music and received positive comments from the adjudicators.

Harry was the winner in the school years 7-9 group and will go on to represent Yorkshire at the Regional Finals in Loughborough on 29 March.

Steve Evans, from the local Rotary Club, said: “With 25 performers, the evening was filled with a superb variety of music.”
