This year, the ever popular Driffield Steam and Vintage Rally is being held on 13 and 14 August - and the Pocklington Post is giving our readers the chance to win tickets for this great event.
Five pairs of adult tickets (accompanied children under 16 get in free) are on offer in our easy to enter competition.
The rally, organised by the East Riding Engine Club and held on the Driffield Showground with its excellent facilities, offers something for everyone, not just the vintage enthusiast, although they are very well catered for.
As well as the steam engines, ranging from the ornate showman’s engines to the more humble steam rollers, there will be about 200 old tractors, even more vintage and classic cars, motorcycles and all manner of other old vehicles, military, commercial, even bicycles and caravans.
There’s a comprehensive cross section of our transport heritage, many with local connections.
A notable, loud example, will be the first public demonstration of a working 37 litre Rolls Royce ‘Griffon’ engine from a 1940s ‘Shackleton’ bomber which may revive memories of when Driffield had an active RAF station.
Also making its first appearance in the UK will be an electric car built in the USA in 1907 as well as another first with two very rare Doble steam cars from the 1920s being seen running together.
Other attractions include an extensive market, a craft hall and another for models, a vintage working area, as well as the old time fairground with its gallopers, dodgems and a 1950s ‘Hurricane Jets’ ride making its second visit to Driffield.
Add in the spectacle of the Saturday evening road run into Driffield town centre and there will be something that appeals to all ages and interests.
Tickets for the rally are £10 for adults with accompanied children (U16) free. OAPs £8 and unaccompanied children £5.
