A GROUP’S bid for a renewable energy grant of £7,500 to make the clubhouse on Wilberfoss Playing Fields more eco-friendly has been unsuccessful.
Wilberfoss Playing Fields Association made it through to the final of the Puragen ‘Keeping it Local’ competition but only managed to finish third after it received an encouraging 592 votes.
Work is well underway on improving the clubhouse, including its kitchen, toilet facilities and changing rooms.
Wilberfoss parish clerk Sarah Wills said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to those of you who took the time to cast your vote. Maybe we’ll have better luck next time.
“We won’t let this dampen our spirits though and thanks to the commitment and dedication of Andy Parkin, Brian Walker and Bill Carter our new kitchen is 99.9 per cent finished. We are delighted with the final result.”
