Excitement is starting to mount as preparations progress for the Remember, Rejoice flower festival, which will be staged at All Saints Church, Pocklington, from Saturday 15 September to Tuesday 18 September.
Organisers of the event have announced the festival will have its very own ‘war horse’ at the church – created by a Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal winner.
Alisa Ord, from Copmanthorpe, created an amazing horse for a gold medal winning stand at this year’s prestigious show.
A spokesman for the event said: “We are very privileged that Alisa has agreed to create our very own ‘war worse’ for the festival – a stand-out first exhibit.
“It will look superb, but different from the puppet for the stage production.”
The exhibit will introduce visitors to the skilful displays in and around the church. These will be designed by top floral artists from across the north of England.
They will tell the story of the period 1914 – 1918, mostly from the perspective of our local people, remembering those who often gave their all in so many fields of this appalling conflict.
