There always seems to be so much to do to prepare for Christmas.
Now we are well into December I wonder how you are getting on with your preparations.
Have you written and posted all the cards that need sending, especially any that need to be sent abroad?
Have you made the Christmas cake and Christmas pudding?
Then there’s the arrangements to see those relatives you only see once a year!
And there’s the presents to buy for everybody and last but not least ensuring that you got all the food you need to see you through the festive period.
It can be exhausting and that’s before we get to the celebrations themselves!
Even after all that are you really prepared for Christmas? I mean really prepared!
Surely Christmas is about God the Father and his Son whom he sent into the world to be our saviour and redeemer.
The four weeks before Christmas which we call Advent is for us as Christians a time when we remember all that God has done for us and given to us through his Son Jesus.
Jesus shows us the way that God wants us to live our lives and he died on the cross so that all the things we have done wrong can be forgiven.
Jesus also promised that he would come again into this world and Advent is a time for us to review our preparations so that we are really ready to meet him when that time comes.
So in amongst all the practical preparations for Christmas do take time to remember what is at the heart of our celebrations, that is Jesus.
Without him there is no Christmas!
But do still stock up well with food and drink.
You never know, Jesus might just arrive back on earth this Christmas and want to come and celebrate it with you and your family.
If he did it would be some party! You never know.
