Burnby Hall and Gardens recorded one of its busiest weekends ever as over 4,000 visitors flocked to the venue to experience it’s first tulip festival and May Day celebrations earlier this month.
Great weather and entertainment combined to bring many visitors from outside the area to the gardens as over 14,000 tulips made for a fantastic display.
If the colourful flowers were not enough, morris dancing group, The Shiptonthorpe Ravens were on hand to keep the crowds interested.
It hasn’t all been plain sailing in the run up to the festival; this spring’s cold weather delayed the plants flowering and consequently the opening of the festival.
However, the large, excited crowds who attended the event over the weekend proves the wait was well worth it.
Sara Waddington, retail and marketing manager at Burnby Hall and Gardens, said: “It has been a fantastic weekend, really busy the whole time, I’ve never seen so many people in the gardens.
“This was our first tulip festival but hopefully it will become and annual thing, there have been lots of people visiting Pocklington who came to the area specifically to see the tulips.”
