The new-look monthly farmers’ market held in Market Weighton last Saturday has been hailed “the best” the town has ever had.

The event featured more than 50 stalls selling a range of goods, including regional produce and arts and crafts.

The Mayor of Market Weighton, councillor Peter Hemmerman, said: “I have been involved with the market on and off since my Chamber of Trade days in the late 1990’s and have to admit that last Saturday’s was the best we have ever had.

“Social media is buzzing with praise for it and everyone I have met is delighted with the outcome. It’s not been easy, everyone involved has worked hard and we have had many set backs. It is disappointing that not all councillors are happy with a private company running the market on our behalf but I believe the result on Saturday justifies our decision and that the prosperity of the town should be our prime concern.”

A spokesperson for the market managers, Blooms A1 Events, added: “The local community supported the event very well, a great atmosphere filled with some fantastic traders and products.”

The next farmers’ market will be held on 21 November.
