Pocklington’s Geoff Sheasby pitched his voice against the country’s best town criers at the Annual British Championships recently.
The competition, held in Middlewich, Cheshire, was entered by 14 town criers, and Geoff did Pocklington proud by finishing in sixth place.
Geoff said: “The competition was hard-fought among the 14 participants. I was extremely pleased to come sixth, which is the highest position I have attained in the six championships I have entered.
“In coming sixth, I was placed ahead of several professional criers, and so feel that I have not let Pocklington down. It was once again a privilege to represent our wonderful town on a national stage. However, as an ex-schoolmaster, I feel the appropriate report would be ‘could do better’!”
The winner of the competition was Michael Wood, the East Yorkshire town crier and he is the Loyal Company of Town Criers British Champion Town Crier for 2015.
The ‘Best Dressed Escort’ trophy was awarded to Jo Jackson, escort to Malton town crier David Jackson.
As well as being available for appearances and proclamations locally, Geoff has two presentations, ‘Confessions of a Town Crier’, and ‘The history of Pocklington Town Criers since 1792’. He can be contacted on 01759 303847 or 07538 616218, or by email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
