East Yorkshire MP Sir Greg Knight has called for the scrapping of the existing practice of abandoning summertime in October and has urged the government to move Britain’s time zone forward by one hour.
He says the change would “greatly help tourism in East Yorkshire and elsewhere, as well as reduce accidents”.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents agrees with Sir Greg’s analysis. They say that over 300 accidents a year would be avoided if the clocks were put forward by one hour. Sir Greg, who has been campaigning on the issue for some years, says he will continue to press for change.
He commented: “I am disappointed that the Government has not been willing to undertake a trial this year of lighter days.”
