Thousands of jobs lost

OVER 3,000 manufacturing jobs have been lost in the East Riding and York since 2007 according to general union GMB.

The GMB’s latest study reveals that between June 2006 and 2007, 24,400 people in the East Riding worked in manufacturing, but this figure dropped to 23,300 in 2010/11.

York saw a loss of 2,300 manufacturing jobs over the same period of time, with 6,300 jobs surviving in the industry for 2010/11.
