That’s the community spirit!

A Bridlington community group celebrated its 10 year anniversary with help from a celebrity guest.

The West Hill Community Centre hosted a special anniversary street party on Saturday to celebrate the success of the group’s work and spreading the message of funding being available to those wanting to make a difference in Bridlington.

Mark Charnock, AKA Marlon Dingle from Emmerdale, was present to celebrate the event and posed for photographs with fans.

The day was also opened by Mayor of Bridlington Shelagh Finlay.

Cec Lindley, Chair of the Community First Panel, said: “It was a great atmosphere and it was fantastic to have Mark here with us. He was fantastic with the way he interacted with everyone and didn’t turn down anyone for a photo.”

Pets at Home were present to mark a pets competition while Parkrose brought along their meerkats and birds of prey. Musical entertainment was provided by local band First Principle.

West Hill Community Centre run a number of different events weekly such as youth clubs, food bank and a craft fair.

Bridlington South Community First Fund offers funding to projects in the south ward but the deadlines for funding applications is at the beginning of December so those interested must act soon.

Cec Lindley said: “The whole day was made to bring the whole community together and I think we did that.

“I would like to thank all the volunteers who came down to help out as it was a real team effort with everyone pulling together to make it a success.”

Our photographer Paul Atkinson went along to capture the events.
