Testing water for flood plan

Homes in Market Weighton are to be surveyed on the possibility of introducing a property flood protection scheme.

Following the flooding last summer, East Riding of Yorkshire Council is considering the introduction of a scheme to help householders and small businesses make their properties more resilient by providing funding for simple measures such as air brick covers, flood-resistant doors and door guards, and treatments for floors and walls.

But first it wants to assess the level of potential interest and is surveying around 5,300 households in Cottingham and Market Weighton, who will receive a short survey through the post, to be returned by 27 March.

The results of the survey will be considered by the council in summer 2015.
