WORK on the new roundabout on the A1079 at Pocklington is due to be completed by the summer, according to East Riding Council. In addition, two new roads are being built linking West Green, Pocklington, and Main Street, Allerthorpe, to the new roundabout, with the old Hodsow Lane junction due to close.
The works are a result of an agreement between East Riding of Yorkshire Council and developers, The BroadHelm Venture (Broadvale Developments and The Helmsley Group), together with landowner, Henry Thirsk.
Jonathan Atkinson, a director for the BroadHelm Venture, believes the road works and the new mixed-use development will benefit residents and provide a welcome boost to the local economy.
He said: “The proposed road improvements will provide exciting development opportunities in the first phase for a number of roadside services and ancillary uses fronting on to the A1079, whilst also providing access to the remainder of the 27 acre mixed-use development.
“In the longer term, there will be opportunities for new businesses to provide additional employment which will in turn allow for economic growth in the locality.”
