Stamford Bridge’s ‘other’ two conflicts

We are all well aware of the famous and bloody battle which took place around Stamford Bridge on 25 September 1066, between the invading Norwegian army of King Harald Hardrada and the victorious English army led by King Harold II.

However, I wager very few of you reading this are aware of the ‘other’ two battles that took place at Stamford Bridge in the 15th and 16th centuries. In fact Stamford Bridge always seems to play some part in the national crisis that arise throughout British history.

As we draw on to 2016 and the commemoration of 950th anniversary of the village’s best known battle, it seems only fair to remember the events, the reasons, and the men who also lost their lives in the other lesser known battles of Stamford Bridge.
