The MP for East Yorkshire has joined a growing number within the Conservative Party calling for a break from Europe.
Sir Greg Knight said he would support ‘Brexit’, arguing Britain is being held back by a European Union that has become a victim of its own “bloated” and centralised bureaucracy.
Sir Greg said: “The terms on offer show that we still do not have control of our borders as we were promised and our courts remain subservient in law to the EU.
“We have had a renegotiation but never has so much time and energy been expended by so many to produce so little.
“The EU itself has not changed. It is still a bloated centralising bureaucracy incapable of resisting expansionist and interventionist activity.
“I predict that if Britain votes to stay, within eight months they will be asking us to pay even more, not out of spite but because they are totally incapable of controlling their own activity and keeping within their budgets.”
It comes as divisions within the Conservative Party deepen over the June referendum.
