The annual Londesborough Produce Show has been running for 70 years, and Guy Stephenson has been to all but two of them since 1945.
Guy, 82, who lives in Shiptonthorpe, has been the show’s chairman for the last 29 years, but is standing down this year. He took over the role from his uncle, Fred Stephenson.
Before becoming chairman he was the show’s treasurer for many years. Altogether, he has been on the show’s committee for about 50 years.
Guy used to enter produce in the show with his father before joining the committee.
He said: “I’ve been to 68 of them. I missed two years while doing national service.” “I have a lot of good memories. We’ve had ups and downs, good and bad years but it’s carried on for 70 years so it can’t be so bad. Hopefully they will carry it on when I’m finished.”
He added: “It’s changed a bit over the years. We used to have a few more classes to what we have now. There used to be more agricultural classes.”
