The Market Weighton Community Shop is back with a bang after the official opening of the store at the weekend.
The New Community Shop, on York Road, has been closed for a month for refurbishment but was re-opened under new management on Saturday with the help of the town’s mayor Cllr Peter Hemmerman.
The team raised £400 for the store with their own tombola on top of the £122.10 raised for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Manager of the Community Shop Catherine May said: “We did very well on our opening day and we were inundated with people and donations. People seemed really pleased to see us again and I am really looking forward to taking the shop forward.”
The ethos of the shop will remain the same with a number of staff returning to work under new management.
The shop will no longer be accepting donations of large pieces of furniture while pick-ups and deliveries will not be available.
Catherine said: “We are very important to the Market Weighton community with the way we support local groups. People know that helping us, helps the community and we are very grateful for the support as without them we would not be able to operate.”
