Shiptonthorpe Village Hall Committee is inviting people from Pocklington, Market Weighton and surrounding villages to take a tour of Shiptonthorpe’s Seventh Living Advent to raise funds for the village hall.
The Living Advent is based on a Swiss tradition and villagers take it in turns to illuminate one festive window in their houses from 1 to 24 December. All of the windows remain lit from dusk until 10pm until the end of December to give everyone plenty of chance to see the creative displays.
Organiser Janet Miller said: “This year, almost a quarter of the houses in the village will be participating in the Advent windows, so it promises to be a spectacular event.”
To ensure that people don’t miss out any houses, the Village Hall Committee has organised an Advent Windows Candle-Lit Walk on 29 December. The walk will leave the village hall on Station Road at 6pm and soup and rolls will be served by Market Weighton Young Farmers in the hall after the walk. The cost is £2.50 for adults, to include soup and a map of the advent locations and children are free.
