A VILLAGE church plans to take part in a nationwide attempt to smash the world record for the largest number of carol singers singing at the same time.
All Saints Church in Shiptonthorpe is inviting residents from the village and surrounding area to join in the Guinness World Record attempt on Sunday 16 December from 7pm.
The current world record was set last year when churches across the UK and abroad attracted a total of 18.114 carol singers to sing five classic carols in unison, beating the previous record of 14,100, established by Disney in 2009.
Reverend Shelagh Jones, a member of the Pocklington Group of Churches Ministry Team, said: “We would like to invite everyone from Shiptonthorpe and surrounding area to join us in the carol singing record attempt.
“It will undoubtedly be a lot of fun to be part of a national challenge while enjoying festive carols in our local church.” All Saints Church will open its doors at 6.30pm and residents who wish to take part are asked to be seated by 6.50pm.
