A walking event is being organised with local rambling clubs at Sancton based around the custom of Rogation.
The Beating the Bounds walk will take place on Sunday 6 May between 9.30am and 4.30pm.
A common feature of Rogation Day in former times was the ceremony of ‘beating the bounds’, when a procession of parishioners, led by the minister, churchwarden, and choirboys, would proceed around the boundary of their parish and pray for its protection.
In the morning the walkers will go through Houghton Woods and in afternoon up Sancton Vale concentrating on the historic sites. There will be a long lunch for BBQ, tea and cakes or picnic.
