Barmby Moor Pink Ladies Breeze cycle group did its own take of the Tour de Yorkshire ahead of the race with a 50-mile round trip flag relay from Beverley Minster to Howden Minster.

The relay started with the Beverley Breeze group who cycled to TJs cafe at Hutton Cranswick where they were met by Driffield Four Seasons Breeze group.

They then transported the flag over the Wolds to Ramblers Rest, Millington, where The Barmby Moor Pink Ladies were waiting to receive the flag.

It was then a fast sprint down to Pocklington and Allerthorpe and on to the Pig in the Willow cafe at East Cottingwith where the Hook Breeze group were waiting.

Val French, Breeze area co-ordinator and cycle leader, said: “With fellow Breeze Leaders Lucy Stubley and Sharon Allan, we then led the group on the back roads to Howden Minster where the mayor was waiting patiently to accept the flag on the end of our mini Tour de Yorkshire.

“As well as highlighting the TDY we also wanted to promote women’s cycling in the area.”

Breeze is an initiative by British Cycling to get one million more women back on their bikes by 2020 and we are well on the way.
