Residents in the Driffield area are being urged to look out for people who may be vulnerable to the cold, during the current spell of chilly weather.

The Met Office has issued a Level 2 cold weather alert across Yorkshire and Humber, the north east and the north west, which could mean average temperatures dropping to two degrees or below.

Dr Tim Allison, East Riding’s director of public health, said: “Most of the advice on keeping warm in cold weather may seem like common sense, but it’s important that people should think about how cold can affect them.

“This is also a good time to think about how the bad weather may affect your friends and family.”

People are advised to have plenty of warm food and drinks to stay warm, and try to maintain indoor temperatures to at least 18 degrees, particularly if they are not mobile, have long-term illness or are 65 or over. When outdoors, wear lots of thin layers and shoes with a good, slip-resistant grip to prevent falls.
