I’m sure most people will recognise these words as being the title of the Beatles song from the 1960s.
The words came to mind after I saw a video clip from Channel 4 news.
It showed 400 children from a school in the States going to one of their teacher’s houses to sing to him.
He was unwell and suffering with cancer and they went there because they wanted him to know that they hadn’t forgotten him and that they loved him.
A very powerful statement and beautifully delivered.
We all need to know that we are loved and it is good to make sure we regularly tell our loved ones that we love them.
In fact we often hear from those who have been married for a long time that one of the things which held them together was the fact that they regularly said to the other that they love them.
Whilst I know that the word love is overused but if we say it and really mean it, that we that person as they are, then that is something which builds up and encourages.
We also need to make sure that our actions show that love, too.
When Jesus was asked what the most important law was he said it was to love God and to love our neighbour as ourselves.
As Christians we love God because he loves us so much that he sent Jesus into the world to show us the way to live our lives and to be our saviour.
If we look at how he lived his life we see that Jesus showed God’s love to all he came in contact with and we are called to do likewise. When we know that we are loved, and God does love each one of us, then it is easier to show that love to other people.
