A musical extravaganza to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday is also set to light up the skies of Market Weighton next weekend.
The town’s very own Proms in the Park event will feature patriotic performances from the East Riding of Yorkshire Choir, as well as local choir Weighton Waytes.
The royal event has been organised by the Market Weighton Town Team, and is sponsored by Rock Cow.
Cllr Nigel Chicken, who has helped make Proms in the Park a reality, said he expects the event will draw more than 100 people.
He added: “I’ve wanted to do Proms in the Park for a while now.
“I thought it would be fantastic to put it on for the Queen’s 90th birthday.
“It will feature songs from musicals and old films, performed by the East Riding of Yorkshire Band.”
The band will play two 45-minute sets – the first will feature pieces from famous musicals and films, and the second will feature patriotic pieces.
The Weighton Waytes set will take place between the two East Riding of Yorkshire Bank sets.
Proms in the Park will be capped off by a professionally organised firework display, and Cllr Chicken said it is hoped the first of its kind event can be repeated again in future.
Cllr Chicken added: “It will be a massive fireworks displayed. I think it’s something we will look at doing again.
“The only thing people need to bring with them are their seating.
“If anyone has not yet got tickets, they need to get them quickly!
Tickets for Proms in the Park can be purchased from the Post Office, the Institute, the Paper Shop, and the Griffin.
Proms in the Park kicks off on Sunday June 12, from 7.30pm onward at the Aspen Road Play Park.
