A public consultation is being launched on the possible removal of the taxi rank on Pocklington’s Railway Street.

The rank consists of three taxi parking bays and was introduced in Railway Street in 2003 and designated for taxis only. It is recognised that the rank is not active during the day and that other vehicles regularly park in the existing marked bays.

At East Riding Council’s cabinet meeting recently, it was decided that the procedure and consultation for the removal of the taxi rank in Railway Street as set out in the report to the cabinet by Nigel Leighton, director of environment and neighbourhood services, be approved.

It was also decided that the proposed removal be consulted on with the licensed trade for a period of 28 days following an initial notification to Humberside Police. If no objections are received, Mr Leighton will be allowed to approve the order to remove the taxi rank.
