Pocklington remembered the 53 fallen heroes of World War One from Pocklington when the two First World War memorials in Market Street and in All Saints’ Church were re-dedicated.

Also to commemorate 100 years since the outbreak of the war, the memorial at Brass Castle Hill has been refurbished by the town council.

Two new flagpoles have been erected with flags representing the capbadges of the two main regiments of the named soldiers - the East Yorkshire Regiment and Alexandra, Princess of Wales’s Own (Yorkshire Regiment).

Two new information boards have also been produced providing information about some of the fallen and how Pocklington was central to the recruitment of soldiers in the area.
