AN ACTOR from Pocklington is set to appear in an episode of the hit comedy drama Shameless.
Toby Meredith, of George Street, spent eight days at Shameless’ Manchester studios for the filming of the episode which will be broadcast next Tuesday, 18 October, on Channel 4 at 10pm. It was shown on E4 earlier this week.
The 28-year-old, who has learning disabilities, is a member of the Huddersfield-based theatre company, Full Body and The Voice, which trains actors with learning difficulties.
Five other actors from the theatre group also appear.
Toby’s father Stephen said: “He was absolutely delighted to get the part. Acting is his life now.”
The Full Body and The Voice actors were given the chance after series producer and director of Shameless, Lawrence Till, watched the group.
He said: “I had seen Full Body and The Voice and was impressed by their work in Huddersfield.
“I hope that the resulting episode shows the skill, enthusiasm and commitment of this talented group of actors and that Shameless can play its part in both the future of the company as well as producing ground-breaking work for 21st century audiences.”
The hit comedy drama is based around underclass families living on a fictional council estate in Manchester.
Next Tuesday’s episode features all of the actors in a major story line, when Mickey Maguire (played by actor Ciaran Griffiths) finds himself doing community service and putting on a play with a group of learning disabled students.
