Pocklington Town Council currently has a vacancy for a councillor following the death of Iris Madden.
A by-election to fill the vacancy will be held if 10 electors of the parish write to the chief executive of East Riding of Yorkshire Council at County Hall, Beverley, HU17 9BA by Friday (April 23) claiming an election.
If the chief executive does not receive such a request the town council will be informed that it may fill the vacancy by co-option.

Meanwhile, the town council has paid tribute to Iris Madden.
A statement said: “The council will miss Iris greatly.
“She was caring, passionate, courageous as well as pragmatic and logical.
“Iris was involved in the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group, planning and representing residents’ interests and ensuring these were brought to the council for consideration and action.
“She was an asset to us as a councillor and a friend to many.”
