A Pocklington man has followed up scooping the Lyric Writing Category of the prestigious UK Songwriting Contest 2020 by becoming the Grand Prize Winner.

Dennis Higgins’ lyrics, which are a tribute to the caring people who have put themselves at risk in order to help others during the Covid pandemic, have been put to music by a talented musician.

Entitled ‘Angels in Disguise’ the song has been released so that it is available in time for the NHS Social Care and Frontline Workers Day which is to be held on Monday, July 5.

Dennis, 87, said: “I am working with Iain Jackson, the musician/vocalist on Angels in Disguise, on a couple of Christmas numbers that will have a traditional feel about them.

“I have found the music industry very difficult to break into, but hope that this is the start as there’s life in the old dog yet!

“To say that I am over the moon would be the understatement of the year.

“Any help by Pocklington Post readers in spreading the word, especially worldwide, would be much appreciated.

“Happy listening and don’t forget to support the NHS, Social Care and Frontline Worker’s Day on Monday, July 5.”
