A new youth bar in Pocklington for 11-18 year olds is looking for a new name.

The venue will be located at the former Oddfellows pub on Union Street and will officially open on Saturday.

The young people of Pocklington are being invited to vote for their favourite from a short-list of suggested names, or they can suggest their own alternative.

The names being put forward are:

Central Pock

Bar None

Juice Box

You can vote by texting QEMGR followed by the name of your choice (or your own suggestion) to 88802.

The name with the most votes will be announced at the opening launch on Saturday. The opening will include an official opening ceremony at 6pm followed by an evening of entertainment including a buffet and live music from local young musicians.

The charity behind the venture, Young People Count, is keen to be able to open the venue regularly throughout the week but will be relying on the help of volunteers to staff it.

Anyone aged over 18 years with an interest in working with young people who would be willing to offer some of their time to help staff the venue, is encouraged to contact the charity at or by calling 07910 187028.

Trustees and volunteers have been working hard to get the venue ready for the opening. They have been redecorating and carrying out repairs, as well as building a stage area for young musicians to play and rehearse.

The young people of Pocklington have been left without a space to call their own since the closure of the youth club. This venue will offer them a chance to socialise and take part in activities and projects.

However, the trustees are keen for the young people themselves to be central to deciding what takes place at the venue and how it is run and anyone aged 11-18 who would be interested in being part of the committee should get in touch.
