Youngsters in Market Weighton are enjoying new play equipment installed on a playing field in the town.
Market Weighton Town Council received a £9,900 grant from the Big Lottery Fund, and used the funding to buy three items of play equipment through Streetscape. The equipment, suitable for children with special needs, has been installed on the War Memorial Playing Field.
The council bought a basket swing, a flying saucer dish roundabout and a frog sitting springer. The Mayor of Market Weighton, councillor Peter Hemmerman, said: “Like many people I was not aware of what a problem it is for some less fortunate children to use the play equipment and when it was pointed out that suitable equipment was available the council were only too happy to make a funding application to enable all children to enjoy the park.” Next year the council is planning to apply for more funding from the Big Lottery Fund to buy equipment for the Aspen Road Play Park in Market Weighton.
