A new Rotary Club for Market Weighton is being launched with a campaign to deliver emergency aid to the Philippines typhoon victims.
Nearly 30 volunteers have already joined the new club, a satellite of its Pocklington-based neighbour, to serve the community of Market Weighton and surrounding villages.
Its first action is to call on the local community to help it raise much-needed funds for emergency shelter and other vital aid to the hundreds of thousands of families now homeless and without clean water in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan.
Typhoon Haiyan has killed more than 3,900 people and that figure is set to increase.
