An oral storyteller from near Pocklington has produced a book about old folk tales.
Ingrid Barton, of Kilnwick Percy, has been browsing through books and the internet to find stories for her book, called ‘North Yorkshire Folk Tales’, which took her the best of a year to complete.
She said: “Stories are one thing, writing them up is another. I only had the barest outline of some of the tales so how I told them was entirely up to me. Somehow I had to keep true to the bare bones while trying to be as entertaining as possible. Part of the brief was also to include other pieces of local folklore and atmosphere where appropriate.”
Mrs Barton is an oral storyteller, which means she does not read stories from books but tells them in front of an audience.
She has already started her next book about folk tales of East Yorkshire.
North Yorkshire Folk Tales is available on Amazon for £9.99.
