The new £4million doctors’ surgery in Pocklington is set to open its doors for the first time next month.

After a construction phase of almost 12 months, preparations for Pocklington Group Practice to move into its new building on West Green from its current premises on Barmby Road are well on the way. The building, to be known as ‘The Beckside Centre’, is nearing completion and the Practice plan to be operational from their new surroundings on 11 May.

The Beckside Centre, is a very airy, bright, modern space with a large comfortable waiting area and a much larger car park than at present.

In addition to the main reception, there will also be a separate dispensary reception which will make it much easier for patients to communicate with the dispensary staff. There are also private rooms to enable the staff on both receptions to have any sensitive/confidential conversations with patients.

Additional consulting rooms and facilities provide the Practice with the space to meet the needs of its increasing patient list. The additional space also provides greater opportunities for the delivery of better integrated services with community providers as well as secondary care.

Staff from Humber NHS Foundation Trust’s Neighbourhood Services team will be based at the new centre, including district nurses and community physiotherapists and occupational therapists. They will also be joined by members of the intermediate care team who support people to stay in their own home or care home who might otherwise have to go into hospital as well as nurses from the older people’s mental health team.

David Hill, Chief Executive of Humber NHS Foundation Trust, claims that moving some services into the new centre would help make local health and social care services more joined up. He said: “We want to enable people to access everything to help them stay fit, healthy and live as independently as possible without going around the houses looking for the support they need.”

On behalf of Pocklington Group Practice, Berni Judge said: “We look forward to continuing our excellent working relationship with the Humber Foundation Trust and advancing the concept of integrated care within our community.”

“Overall, everyone in the Practice is now getting very excited about the move and we all look forward to welcoming all our patients into the lovely new surroundings.”
