Mount Pleasant Junior School has two reasons to celebrate after both of its Under 11s football teams performed well at recent competitions.
The Market Weighton-based school saw its girls’ seven-a-side team emerge victorious at three competitions, becoming Humberside Champions in the process.
The side now goes on to represent the county in Nottingham in February.
They played at St Mary’s Sports College in Hull in the Girls Humberside 7s Finals and didn’t concede a goal all night during the six matches against Maybury (1-0 and 2-0) and the Greenway Academy (5-0 and 3-0) from Hull and then Martongate of Bridlington (1-0) in the semi and Great Coates of Grimsby (1-0) in the final.
The girls were already winners of the Wolds’ Competition, taking in the Pocklington and Market Weighton Cluster of schools.
They won the trophy after beating Stamford Bridge 2-1 in the final. They also became East Riding County Champions at South Hunsley before claiming the Humberside trophy. Meanwhile, the boys team shared the Wolds’ Competition Boys’ trophy with Holme on Spalding Moor after drawing 0-0 in the final.
