A memorial service will be held next week to remember a well-known member of the local community who died last month.
Cynthia Warrington, who lived in Pocklington, died on 9 August. Local residents may remember her for spearheading a campaign to encourage women to part with their unwanted bras so they could be sent to underdeveloped countries in Africa.
From 2007 until this year, she collected more than 48,000 bras.
For every bra that was collected, the European Union paid 10p, which Mrs Warrington donated to Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Altogether, she raised about £5,000 for the charity.
Her husband Ian said: “She had a terrific sense of fun and generosity and always put others before herself.”
The memorial service will take place at All Saints’ Church in Pocklington on Friday 4 October at 2.30pm.
