Yorkshire First - the party campaigning for a Yorkshire wide parliament - has announced that the Mayor of Market Weighton has joined the party.

Councillor Peter Hemmerman has been a Market Weighton town councillor for eight years.

Coun Hemmerman said: “I want to see changes and these can only come about by real devolution of powers away from London to Yorkshire and in turn to local communities. I have become convinced in recent months that Yorkshire First is the only party which can help deliver that, so my decision to join Yorkshire First was an easy one.”

Deputy leader of Yorkshire First, Stewart Arnold, said: “I am delighted that Peter has agreed to join us. He is a well respected local councillor and has always worked hard for the people of the town.”

A Yorkshire First meeting will held on Thursday (8 October), at 7.30pm, in council chambers in Market Weighton. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
