Three time Grammy Award winner Lucinda Williams is an American rock, folk, blues and country music singer and songwriter, whose attention to detail has produced a catalogue of remarkably high quality material including the universally acclaimed Car Wheels on a Gravel Road.
Williams has announced a short UK tour promoting her new album The Ghosts of Highway 20 – recorded in the middle of arguably the most prolific period of her nearly four decade career. The narratives revolve around the 1500-mile Highway 20 (aka Interstate 20) that runs in part from Georgia to Texas. Williams’ experiences and connections to these areas are the basis for one of her most uniquely personal albums yet.
Venue manager Janet Farmer said: “I have been a huge admirer of Lucinda’s music for many years now and have seen her perform on several occasions. It was always going to be a hard task booking somebody to match Mary Chapin Carpenter’s wonderful performance at the festival last year but I think we’ve managed to do that with Lucinda. There is a wonderful link between the two artists, as Lucinda wrote Passionate Kisses which was one of Mary’s first hits. The song is now part of both of their set lists and a firm fan’s favourite. Lucinda’s latest album has received 4 and 5 star reviews both sides of the Atlantic and her profile is at an all-time high, it is truly an honour to have somebody of this calibre performing at the venue’s festival.”
This event takes place at The Old Station (Pocklington), part of Platform Festival, on Tuesday July 12 at 8pm.
