Visiting the High Street in Pocklington the other day I noticed yet another shop/property designated to become a food outlet.
What on earth is happening to Pocklington – not only has it the most appallingly awful road leading to it from the A1079 that in itself is off-putting, but it appears to be gradually losing its quaint character too.
It used to be a pleasure shopping in the High Street with its individual and friendly shops where you could get what you wanted.
However, just lately it seems to be overwhelmed by fast food joints that of a lunchtime are chock-full of school children wasting their money on unhealthy stodge.
Surely there are enough coffee shops and patisseries where people can fill their faces if they need to without adding even more.
Admittedly Pocklington is expanding at a phenomenal rate, but this is in itself causing problems when trying to park, especially as the free car parks always seem full of cars who I assume belong to those who actually work in the town centre.
I tend to park by Burnby Hall Gardens and I enjoy the walk, however many find the endless circling in their cars to find a space most frustrating.
Pocklington still has a lot to offer, but please don’t let the planners destroy it through ill thought out planning permission, and frankly I cannot see the logic of opening a business such as another coffee shop or cake shop when there is so much competition nearby – utterly crazy!
