There’s been two more distressing accidents on a deadly section of the A1079 (where access roads from Dunnington and Wilberfoss join the main road) in less than a week.
Danger at one of these junctions is certain to increase with the ongoing construction of large housing developments in Wilberfoss.
Yet the immediate local road building priority seems to be the projected expensive widening of the A1079 into a dual-carriageway in the vicinity of Barmby Moor.
This will further increase risks for drivers from surrounding villages attempting to join the main road.
In an era of severe financial cutbacks, priority should be given to smaller scale traffic-calming measures such as roundabouts and traffic lights.
Safety should be the prime concern rather than an obsession with cutting journey times.
We need to be prepared to slow down a bit!
