Letter: Smoking plan a waste of money

If the motion was purely for council play areas I would have supported it.

I was saddened to read Conservative Cllr Jonathan Owen, ERYC deputy leader from Kilham regarding his motion to restrict smoking in children’s play areas (letters, Thursday, November 30).

His motion read: “That this council asks for relevant officers to investigate the cost and implications of introducing a smoking ban at all council owned children’s play areas and other places and venues, in and outwith council ownership, where children meet and congregate and reports to cabinet with the intention of resultant recommendations being brought to full council for debate.”

I voted against the motion as it would have wasted taxpayers’ money looking into banning smoking in homes and gardens.

If the motion was purely for council play areas I would have supported it.

Sadly every Conservative councillor voted in favour of this motion which will do nothing more than waste taxpayers’ money.
