It is difficult to express my heartfelt pride and honour to have been asked to be Town Mayor for the Civic Year 2018-2019.

My first year in office was quite a steep learning curve which will stand me in good stead for the ensuing 12 months.

My thanks to my fellow councillors for putting their faith in me and I sincerely trust I do not disabuse their trust.

This year will be very challenging for all of us as we undertake the refurbishment of the former Barclays Bank into the Town Hall that all residents of Market Weighton be proud of.

I am also pleased that Cllr Derek Cary has been re-elected as deputy mayor. I cannot express enough gratitude for his unstinting support and for all the work he undertakes in Market Weighton.

I also wish to thank all my colleagues on the council for their amount of immense hard work they carry out over the civic year.

Finally thanks are due to the Town Clerk Miss Stacey Jayne Bellamy and the administration officer Kevin Keller for their day to day work in the office.

Things would not operate without them.

Also priase must go to Mr Billy Speed, our part-time handyman for keeping the town tidy and stepping up the plate while we looked for a new full time handyman, so welcome to Mr Sean Gannon who will be a welcomed addition to the team.
