A village’s heritage project is gathering momentum with recent fundraising success.
The Shiptonthorpe Heritage Project event ‘Wartime in Shiptonthorpe’ was a great success with more than 50 people enjoying an evening of wartime readings and songs that raised almost £300.
Funds raised will go towards a scanner and a hard drive to begin the archiving process for a book that will chart the village’s history and memories.
Alan Heaven, chairman of the project, is also appealing for people to drop into the village hall, on Station Road, on 6 December between 10am and 12noon with their village memorabilia, which can be scanned and returned during the morning, to contribute to the village book.
Those wishing to share their stories and memories of life in the village, to be documented for the book, are also welcome on the day.
Visitors will be provided with refreshments at the event.
The heritage project is the biggest in the history of the village and will also create a digital archive.
Anyone who would like to contribute to the book and the Shiptonthorpe Heritage Project can call Sue Beadle on 07766 554574 for more information.
