A resident of Fridaythorpe has celebrated her 100th birthday at home with friends and family.
Mrs Winifred Boyes, known as “Winnie,” has lived in and around the village all her life.
Although she has no children of her own she has been “mother” to many hundreds of local children over the decades.
Her half-cousin Eddie Scrase said: “Lots of people around the Driffield area will know her but they won’t have seen her for a year or two because she’s been housebound.”
Mrs Boyes (nee Atkinson) was joined by family and friends as well as the local vicar for a celebration - even though she said “didn’t want a big fuss.”
Born at Pluckham Farm, Fridaythrope, in the middle of World War One, she married her husband, a farmer worker, when she was 23 and spent most of her life working as a housewife.
She has lived in her current home for 70 years.
