A Pocklington hairdresser has won £10,000 on a hit TV show and hopes to open a new salon.
Mark Lee, who owns a luxury hair salon on George Street, Mark Lee Hairdressing , appeared on Deal or No Deal last week and took on the banker in an attempt to win £250,000.
With 22 boxes and amounts of money ranging from the jackpot of £250,000 to one pence, Mark had dreams of expanding his, then, newly opened business.
Mark took the banker’s offer of £10,000 not long after he lost the £100,000 box. And with good reason.
In his box, number 14, was the dreaded one pence meaning he took home £10,000 and also escaped the 1p club.
Mark said: “The experience in itself was fantastic. Even before you got on the show it was.”
The filming originally took place in February last year; he featured in 21 shows before he took on the banker in his 22nd.
Mark was delighted to take home the £10,000 and has had plenty of time to put his winnings to good use.
“It was fantastic. I had only just bought the business so the money came in really handy.”
“We had a few holidays together and got some extra stuff for the business.”
Mark came very close to joining the infamous 1p club.
He said: “I’m one of those people thinking I’m going all the way but I thought £10,000 is a lot of money - I just can’t chance that. I’m so glad I didn’t.
“I say the experience of going down there I wouldn’t have been bothered even if I came away with nothing , you can’t fault the experience.
“It was incredible and I loved it.”
