A SMALL group of volunteers who collect green waste in Pocklington managed to recover a staggering 34 tonnes of waste in 2011.

The Greengrass Recycling Group collect waste on the Sherbuttgate estate on alternate Mondays in the spring and summer.

Pocklington Town Council would like to extend the area of collection to cover Wold Road but needs more volunteers to help. Anyone interested should contact town clerk Richard Wood on (01759) 304851. Collections will re-start in late April.

The waste is taken to the site at the back of the waste disposal facility on Burnby Lane, where it is heaped, shredded, turned and eventually sieved to make a really good soil enhancer or mulch.

The site is open between 10am and 2pm on Saturday, 7 January and those interested in purchasing the soil are asked to bring their own bags.

A trailer will be placed on the West Green car park from Tuesday, 4 January, for people to leave their Christmas trees in, which will then be recycled.
