At the next meeting of the Pocklington and District Local History Group Phil Gilbank will explain how some soldiers photographed outside the Drill Hall on Barmby Road in July 1944 came to be involved in the liberation of Paris.

Although local people thought these soldiers to be French many were, in fact, Spanish.

The meeting will be held on Thursday 19 April at the Old Courthouse, George Street, Pocklington, from 7.30pm.

The meeting will also include the group’s AGM and a review of new material gathered during the year by Andrew Sefton, the group’s archivist.

The meeting starts at 7.30pm. All are welcome and there is no admission charge.
