Four fundraising friends are gearing up for a gruelling 1,500 mile drive to Benidorm for charity.

Martin Featherstone, from Holme-on-Spalding Moor, and Market Weighton pals Eddie Gunn, 39, Paul Clark and Steve Gunn, are taking part in the ‘Benidorm or Bust’ rally from 30 April to 4 May.

The first leg of the journey will see the ‘East Yorkshire Riders’ drive all the way down to Dover, about 270 miles. After making the crossing to Calais they will head for Poitiers, a 390 mile drive. The next day they will make a 460 mile trip from Poitiers to Zaragoza.

The final stage of the journey will see them drive 285 miles from Zaragoza to Benidorm.

The group have chosen to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, and aim to raise about £2,000.

Martin said: “We’re very much looking forward to it. We have all been touched by cancer in the past and it seemed like a good cause for us all.

He added: “Every year the same group of lads have a night away and we thought why not raise money for charity.”

The group are hoping to make it to Benidorm in a Volvo V40, which cost them £300. The car will be scrapped after they have completed the challenge.

Entry for Benidorm or Bust costs £200 per car with two crew and £25 per extra crew member. This includes ferry crossing from Dover to Calais. There is a £1,000 prize fund for ‘Best Car’, ‘Best Costumes’ and ‘Spirit of the Event’.

The East Yorkshire Riders already have the support of number of local businesses which are sponsoring their fundraising efforts.
